SAN FRANCISCO, CA – October 2, 2015 – United Nations Global Pulse andQuid, an information mapping platform, today announced a global partnership that will allow the UN to gain access to Quid’s platform that gathers information, and enables visual mapping and analysis on any topic.
Global Pulse’s data scientists working in innovation labs in New York (US), Jakarta (Indonesia) and Kampala (Uganda) will use Quid to analyze large text-based data sets, such as media content, to identify key words and trends which can help tackle global development and humanitarian issues ranging from early warning of disease outbreaks, to perceptions about unemployment and food security.
Global Pulse and Quid have already been collaborating to understand immunization awareness and sentiment through analysis of news content. Additional projects for which Global Pulse will utilize Quid’s news media analysis platform include:
• Analyzing the changing public discourse about the newly adopted Sustainable Development Goals
• Monitoring the media impact of policy changes, particularly around sustainable energy and climate action
This week, during a special Summit at UN Headquarters, world leaders adopted an ambitious new agenda for called the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Among the 17 goals is an emphasis on data, innovation and partnerships. “It is now clear to the international community that solving global problems will require a data revolution in the public sector. Here at Global Pulse we are pleased to be partnering with cutting-edge technology companies like Quid to not only catalyze the use of advanced analytics across the UN, but also demonstrate the importance of public-private partnerships around data innovation,” said Robert Kirkpatrick, Director of Global Pulse.
“The Quid product provides a new way to analyze the world’s information, uncovering hidden insights and critical trends,” says Bob Goodson, Quid Founder. “The importance of visualization to make sense of large datasets has been well-acknowledged in recent years by the business sector. Through this new partnership with Global Pulse we are thrilled to put our technology to work as part of the growing “data for good” movement.”
